How does a guy from Palo Alto, CA, find his way to being a starter on the Frozen Tundra for the Green Bay Packers? It’s simple: be one of the best wide receivers in the country, leave college after two seasons, get drafted by the Packers and start a month into your rookie season. At Palo Alto High School, Adams was known for playing both sides of the ball. A true athlete, he also lettered four years in basketball and averaged 20 ppg as a senior. Soon, the Mountain West Conference and Fresno State came calling and Adams showed his stuff.

The NFL has one of the most exclusive Hall of Fames in all of sports. It is so difficult to get in that, many times, players and coaches must wait for a senior committee to vote on their rightful place in the Hall of Fame. This was the case of former NFL head coach Dick Vermeil, who was named a senior finalist for the Hall of Fame. Earlier in February 2022, Coach was announced at the NFL Honors Event that he had been selected for induction to the Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 2022.

The most recent inductee into the Pro Football Hall of Fame representing the Green Bay Packers, Jerry Kramer has had a long and interesting football career.  Taken by the Packers as the 39th overall selection in the 1958 NFL Draft, he waited 50 years before being inducted in Canton at age 82. Kramer is recognized as one of the toughest Packers to ever play the game.

From his birthplace in Jordan, Montana, to an early childhood in Utah, then to Idaho for middle and high school, Kramer moved around a lot but was definitely a standout athlete at Sandpoint High School, doing well enough to earn a scholarship to the University of Idaho.

In the 2005 NFL draft, the Green Bay Packers selected quarterback Aaron Rodgers with the 24th pick in the first round. 15 years later, the Packers drafted the heir apparent to Rodgers, Jordan Love of Utah State, with the 26th pick of the 2020 NFL draft.

The Packers did have pick No. 30 in Round 1 on Thursday night, but then traded up with the Miami Dolphins to move up to pick No. 26. My first guess was that Green Bay traded up to select linebacker Patrick Queen of LSU. I was somewhat shocked when it was announced that the Packers instead took the 6’4″, 225-pound Love with the pick.

How does a kid, born and raised in California, make their way to the frozen tundra of Lambeau Field for potential greatness as a Green Bay Packer? If you’re Kenny Clark, the answer is simple: be a four star recruit out of Wilmer Amina Carter High School in Rialto, CA as a nose tackle, go to UCLA and be one of the best players in the Pac-12, then get drafted by the Packers. Easy, right?

Actually, Kenny Clark has worked very hard to get where he’s at. As one of the best high school football players in the West (and a three time letterman in wrestling, as well), Clark wanted to stay in California for school. UCLA was an obvious choice, and as a Bruin, Clark performed.

You can’t call yourself a real Green Bay Packers fan if you don’t know the first player to do the famous Lambeau Leap. If you said LeRoy Butler (pronounced “L’Roy”), then you know your stuff. Indeed, Butler first performed the famous leap into the end zone stands on December 26, 1993 in a game against the Los Angeles Raiders.

What’s amazing about Butler is that during childhood, he was pigeon toed. The doctors had to break bones in both feet to correct the problem, leaving Butler in either a wheelchair or leg braces for much of his early childhood. When Butler was eight, his sister accidentally knocked him out of his wheelchair and scattered his leg braces.

Wisconsin Badger fans had plenty of reason to “jump around” when Melvin Gordon was on the field as the team’s star running back. In 2014, he was only 41 yards shy of breaking Barry Sanders’ all-time single-season rushing record. That season, he finished second in the Heisman Trophy voting, losing to Marcus Mariota.
