Jerry Kramer was born in Jordan, Montana but moved to Sandpoint, Idaho where he attended at Sandpoint High School. He was recruited on scholarship to play football at the University of Idaho.
Kramer was a versatile player who could play both sides of the football at line, as well as being the team kicker. He was an honorable mention for All-American in 1956. He also was on the track and field team and held the school record for shot put.
Kramer pursued football and was drafted by the Green Bay Packers in the 4th round as the 39th overall pick in the 1958 NFL Draft
Kramer spent his whole career with the Packers, primarily as a lineman and placekicker.
After a rough first season only winning one game, the Packers brought in Vince Lombardi. Kramer played right guard for the Packers as they began winning five NFL Titles as well as the first two Super Bowls.
Injuries were a big part of his NFL career, which hurt his ability to play many games. There are 22 recorded surgeries he had in 11 seasons. Through these problems, Kramer was still a five-time All-Pro selection and a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame. He is also renowned for his lead block in the Ice Bowl to seal the victory.
Kramer was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2018. Kramer was also named to the NFL’s All-Decade Team of the 1960s, the NFL’s 50th Anniversary Team in 1969 and the Super Bowl Silver Anniversary Team.
