The Green Bay Packers struck gold when they signed linebacker De’Vondre Campbell as a free agent last season. Training camp had already begun when Campbell signed a one-year deal worth $2 million with the Packers. Very few could have predicted what happened next.
It wasn’t that De’Vondre Campbell didn’t have offers in free agency. It was that he did not have any offers from teams he felt were a good fit. When the Green Bay Packers called, Campbell knew he the right team had finally called. Players certainly know defensive coordinator Joe Barry for his work with linebackers, and Campbell was a perfect fit.
What followed was the best season of De’Vondre Campbell’s career. He had a career-high 146 total tackles, including 102 solo. Campbell also had six tackles for loss, six quarterback hits, two interceptions, two forced fumbles, and a fumble recovery. Additionally, Campbell had five pass deflections while allowing just a 74.9 passer rating when targeted.
Voters named De’Vondre Campbell First-Team All-Pro for his efforts. The Packers also gave him a five-year $50-million contract to keep him in Green Bay long-term.
Every year, NFL.com ranks the top 100 players in the league before the regular season kicks off. This year, only two Green Bay Packers players made the list. Of course, Aaron Rodgers made it. The other Packers player was De’Vondre Campbell, who was ranked 49th. Former Green Bay Packers wide receiver and friend of Mayfield Sports Marketing, Davante Adams, also made the list.
The Green Bay Packers defeated the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 14-12 in their Week 3 matchup of the 2022 season. They might not have escaped the heat of Florida with the win if it had not been for the heroics of De’Vondre Campbell.
After the Bucs had scored a touchdown, making the score 14-12, they went for two with 14 seconds remaining in the game. Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady rolled out and threw a pass on the right side towards the end zone. Campbell made a play on the ball after reading it from the snap. Campbell leaped and tipped the pass away, preserving the lead and the game for the Packers.
After the game, Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers called Campbell a special player. When asked about Rodgers’ comments, Campbell said the following on this week's "Clubhouse Live," a Mayfield Sports Marketing-partnered event:
“Just the respect level I have for him is immense. So for him to say something like that, you know, he doesn’t know how much it means to me because I’ve always said that in my humble opinion, he’s the best quarterback that I’ve ever seen.”

Name-Image-Likeness (NIL) has been a source of contention in college sports for decades. According to a report by USNews, Eric Crouch was once suspended for accepting a ham sandwich and a short plane ride, valuing $22.77. Therefore he had to write a check to pay it back. According to the same report, current NCAA athletes are subsequently signing NIL deals worth millions of dollars to capitalize on their own likenesses. The US Supreme Court changed the policy on a ruling stating college athletes should be allowed to make money from their own names. Gone are the days of colleges and universities monopolizing completely on their student athletes.
Many believed that this ruling for allowing NIL deals was long overdue. Among these was Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh, who, as a result, had the most severe criticism of the NCAA in the court’s ruling. The following quote was obtained from a USA Today story, found here:
"Nowhere else in America can businesses get away with agreeing not to pay their workers a fair market rate on the theory that their product is defined by not paying their workers a fair market rate. And under ordinary principles of antitrust law, it is not evident why college sports should be any different.
"The NCAA is not above the law."
Of the enormous sums of money generated by college athletics, Kavanaugh wrote:
"Those enormous sums of money flow to seemingly everyone except the student athletes. College presidents, athletic directors, coaches, conference commissioners, and NCAA executives take in six- and seven-figure salaries. Colleges build lavish new facilities. But the student athletes who generate the revenues, many of whom are African American and from lower-income backgrounds, end up with little or nothing."
In the most basic terms, the ruling means that student athletes can brand and market themselves. While schools don't pay players, they can now create their own brands and make money from their own names.
The college sports world has certainly already seen student athletes sign lucrative NIL deals worth millions of dollars. Before the Supreme Court’s ruling, such deals were illegal and could result in harsh penalties for athletes and schools.
NIL is about to change the world of athletes as we know it. The NCAA’s move to allow athletes to make money from their name, image, and likeness is certainly bold. Contact MSM to get you ahead of the game.
Athletes in many states benefit from NIL deals. They can now see even more benefits off the field from their continuous hard work and athletic prowess. If you live in a state where legislation has passed, and you want to get a jump on your athletic exposure, don’t hesitate to contact us. Your future is now!

Packers Hall of Famer Gilbert Brown has become a known member of the Wisconsin community, constantly making appearances at charity events. This weekend was no different as he and Mayfield Sports Marketing once again traveled to Brookfield, Wisconsin to help Tricia's Troops bring relief and support to families affected by cancer.
Cancer is such an awful disease. Not only does it drain a person’s body of their health, youth, and vigor, but it strains those suffering from it and their families in other ways. Chances are that you, yourself, have had or have had a loved one experience cancer. Undoubtedly, their physical sufferings, along with the emotional, mental, and spiritual tolls of the disease and its treatment, are all-too-familiar.
Such was the case for Tricia Wright. A native of Oconomowoc, Wisconsin, Tricia was diagnosed with stage four liver cancer on January 16, 2010. Additionally, her diagnosis included metastasis to her liver and lungs. At the time, Tricia was 35, married, and the mother of two little girls. While her prognosis was not good, Tricia and her family opted to fight the disease with chemotherapy.
As many know, chemotherapy is not an easy treatment. Members of her church, Dr. Martin Luther Church, provided her and her family with cards and meals. Eventually, they became known as Tricia’s Troops. Per the Tricia’s Troops website, "Tricia and her family realized that the support they received from their friends and community was not something that all cancer patients and families received."
For this reason, Tricia and her husband started a non-profit organization called Tricia’s Troops Cancer Connection. Their goal was to provide the love and support they received after her diagnosis to every family affected by cancer.
Tricia Wright died on April 26, 2012, 15 months after her diagnosis. Her legacy of kindness and care for others certainly lives on in the foundation that she started.

Gilbert surprises Kara Mayfield on her first anniversary of beating breast cancer with a gift.
Mayfield Sports Marketing and Packers legend Gilbert Brown were proud to once again partner with Tricia’s Troops. Together, they helped raise money to bring relief and support to families affected by cancer.
On Saturday, Sept. 17, Gilbert and Mark Mayfield joined Tricia's Troops in Brookfield, Wisconsin for a charity event that has raised over $100,000 at an event in previous years.
“We are absolutely honored and humbled to work with Candi, Bill, and the entire Wright family on the Tricia’s Troops events," Mark said. "Packers legend Gilbert Brown, and I have attended the event since 2015. The work that they do is very inspiring, and we are proud to assist in their mission.”
This is a continuation of Mark's non-profit work. In the past, he has worked with players such as, Ahman Green, Hall of Famer Leroy Butler, Hall of Famer Jerry Kramer, Hall of Famer Dave Robinson, Kenny Clark and Olympians Bonnie Blair and Chellsie Memmel.
In addition, if you or someone you love is facing a battle with cancer, please visit the Tricia’s Troops Programs page on their website.

For many years, "Clubhouse Live" has been hosted by numerous Green Bay Packers stars and alumni. This season, The Clubhouse Kitchen and Bar inside the Hilton Appleton Paper Valley Hotel once again welcomes the weekly show. This season, Packers All-Pro linebacker De’Vondre Campbell and second-year wide receiver Amari Rodgers will co-host the show.
The previous host of "Clubhouse Live" was Ahman Green, who appeared on the show on September 5 to get the audience amped up for the Packers-Vikings game.
During the show, Brett Christopherson asked the two Packers players if they had any message for Ricardo. Ricardo is a producer of the show and a Chicago Bears fan. To answer this question, De’Vondre Campbell said, “Sit back and enjoy the show.” Amari Rodgers responded, “I say, ‘Ditto.’”
Campbell and Rodgers also spent some time recapping the Packers' loss to the Minnesota Vikings. Campbell was quick to “tip the cap” to Minnesota and said that “they made plays that we didn’t.” He also named the date of the next Packers-Vikings matchup, Jan. 1, 2023.
One interesting segment towards the end of "Clubhouse Live" was where the two Packers players answered the question, “What do you do before the game on game days?” De’Vondre Campbell stated that he sleeps all day, even though his wife isn’t necessarily OK with it. “She understands, though," he joked. "After seven years, we have an understanding.” He explained that he used to sit around, waiting for late games, so sleep is how he passes the time.
On the other hand, Amari Rodgers is a little more active. This makes sense as he has a baby boy who was also present at the show. “I take a nap for sure, but I also try to spend some time with family, and really treat it like any other day.” He explained that he does not like to “make the moment bigger than it is.” So acting like it’s a normal day helps him to keep himself calm.
Mayfield Sports Marketing is an official partner of "Clubhouse Live." The show is hosted on Mondays during the season.

The Green Bay Packers selected Amari Rodgers with the third-round draft pick (85th overall) in 2021. While he did not see much of the field during his rookie season, Rodgers is ready and confident to make an impact in his second year in the NFL. Before the Packers' season kicked off Sunday, several members of the Packers’ coaching staff and team noticed a difference in the second-year wide receiver.
When the Packers first drafted Amari Rodgers, his previous connection to Green Bay became public knowledge, at least to fans. The two players drew easy comparisons as they both play the slot wide receiver position. However, a little digging unearthed a fascinating connection.
Randall Cobb played his college football at the University of Kentucky. His wide receiver coach there was Tee Martin, Amari Rodgers’ father. Rodgers grew up watching Randall Cobb play and modeled his game after his.
As Cobb, Rodgers, and the other Packers players participated in various team activities, it became apparent that Amari Rodgers was ready to take the next step in the NFL. When speaking to Packers wide receiver coach Jason Vrable, Cobb stated: “Yo, you can feel it from him.”
Randall Cobb is entering his 12th year in the NFL. If he is excited about what a player is doing, it is an excellent sign of things to come.
Jason Vrable, the Packers wide receivers coach, addressed the media in late May regarding what he had seen from Amari Rodgers. He was also asked why Rodgers did not receive more playing time in 2021. To that, Vrable said,
“I don’t give Amari [Rodgers] the out that [Cobb] was here. It’s your job to beat Randall out or beat our Z out. Even though he plays the slot, I’ve got him working out at Z, and he’s done that before. His performance just wasn’t on their level. That’s just the reality of it, right? It wasn’t that he was bad, but he wasn’t doing the high-level things that Randall was doing or the Z, Lazard.”
While this is a brutally honest answer that can come from none other than a football coach, it does highlight how talented the Packers' wide receivers are as a whole. This, of course, includes Allen Lazard, a proud partner of Mayfield Sports Marketing.
While Vrable’s response pointed out growing pains, he did express excitement for what Amari Rodgers has brought to team activities:
“His route-running is already cleaner and crisper. I feel really good about Amari. It’s just the start right now. We’ll see where he’s at when the pads come on, and the lights go on.”
Amari Rodgers came into the NFL behind Davante Adams, Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Allen Lazard, and Randall Cobb on the Packers' wide receiver depth chart. With limited playing time, Rodgers had four receptions for 45 yards in 2021.
Now, in 2022, Davante Adams is playing for the Las Vegas Raiders. In addition, Marquez Valdes-Scantling has signed with the Kansas City Chiefs. Even though the Packers drafted three new wide receivers in the 2022 NFL Draft, and signed Sammy Watkins, Amari Rodgers has the perfect opportunity to crack into the regular lineup. If what Cobb and Vrable are seeing is a reality, then Rodgers is in for a special season.

Rasul Douglas knows what it is like to move around a lot. From November 2, 2020, to October 6, 2021, he played for or was on the practice squad of four different NFL teams. After spending the first three seasons of his career with the Philadelphia Eagles (and winning a Super Bowl), Douglas played for the Carolina Panthers in 2020.
Following the 2020 season, Rasul Douglas signed with the Las Vegas Raiders. They decided to release him, though, during the 2021 preseason. After his release, he spent time on the practice squads of the Houston Texans and Arizona Cardinals.
Meanwhile, the Green Bay Packers had a cornerback problem. Despite having Eric Stokes and Jaire Alexander, both partners of Mayfield Sports, the team needed a boost in the secondary. Alexander hurt his shoulder and was out for the remainder of the season. As a result, the Packers plucked Rasul Douglas off of the Arizona Cardinals’ practice squad and thrust him into action.
Ironically, the first game Douglas played for the Packers was against the Arizona Cardinals. The back-and-forth contest saw the Packers lose Robert Tonyan to a torn ACL. Green Bay was already short-handed with Davante Adams, Allen Lazard, and Marquez Valdes-Scantling all out.
Fortunately, the Packers have Aaron Rodgers, and he helped give the Packers the lead late in the fourth quarter. The Cardinals got the ball back with less than two minutes left in the game and proceeded to march down the field. Then, with the clock winding down, Cardinals’ quarterback Kyler Murray threw to A.J. Green in the end zone. Rasul Douglas picked the ball cleanly, consequently clinching the victory for the Green Bay Packers.
Not only did Douglas’ interception seal the win, but he also led the Packers' defense with nine tackles and two passes defended. It was a sign of things to come.
Rasul Douglas missed the 2021 Pro Bowl in votes. However, they voted him in as a Pro Bowl alternate. Had he been able to play a full season with the Packers, he almost certainly would have been voted into the contest. Perhaps he would have even been named an All-Pro.
In 12 games (nine starts) with the Green Bay Packers, Rasul Douglas had 57 total tackles, 13 passes defended, and five interceptions. Douglas returned two of these interceptions for touchdowns. His two defensive touchdowns led the NFL.
While these stats look great, they do not tell the full story of how great Douglas is. The advanced stats show how much of a game-changer Douglas was for the Green Bay Packers.
In 2021, Rasul Douglas allowed just 32 receptions on 64 targets. His 5.5 yards allowed per target were by far the best in his career. Ironically, Douglas scored just as many touchdowns himself (two) as he gave up to opposing wide receivers. Perhaps the most impressive stat of all, though, is that quarterbacks had a rating of just 44.5 when targeting Douglas.
After the Green Bay Packers exited the playoff early, Rasul Douglas’ contract with the team was up. In his postseason press conference, he expressed to the media that he wanted to return to the Packers, “If they will have me.” He previously had expressed this desire to Matt LaFleur privately.
Fortunately, the Green Bay Packers felt the same way and offered Rasul Douglas a three-year $21 million contract. Now, the Packers' defense boasts Douglas, Alexander, and Stokes as their top three cornerbacks, certainly the best trio in the NFL.

Packers fans debate every offseason if the Packers draft a wide receiver in the first round of the NFL Draft. It is a useless practice at this point. Green Bay has not taken a receiver in the first round since 2002. With their first-round pick in 2021, the Packers selected Eric Stokes, cornerback from the University of Georgia. The pick may not have been the one that fans wanted. However, it ended up being the one the Packers needed last regular season.
When the Packers selected Eric Stokes, he projected to be their third cornerback behind starters Jaire Alexander and Kevin King. Stokes played just eight defensive snaps in the Packers’ Week 1 loss to the Saints. However, both Alexander and King missed significant time with injuries in 2021. Eric Stokes became a starter from then on.
Of course, Rasul Douglas was signed to help provide some relief in the secondary. It was an excellent pickup as he had five interceptions in 12 games (two of which he returned for touchdowns). However, Stokes also established himself as a premier lockdown cornerback in the NFL.
In 16 games (12 starts) for the Packers, Eric Stokes had 14 passes defended, one interception, and 55 tackles. As a rookie cornerback, opposing quarterbacks often targeted Stokes, hoping to take advantage of his inexperience. The joke was on them, though. During training camp in 2021, Aaron Rodgers and Davante Adams spent many practices picking on him. While it would have been easy to become frustrated, Eric Stokes realized that Rodgers and Adams are the best at their respective positions. By picking on him early and often, they prepared him for the role he would eventually take on.
As a result of practicing against the best quarterback and wide receiver in the NFL for weeks, Stokes put up numbers that most cornerbacks could only dream of. He allowed 48 receptions (49.5 completion percentage). This is despite being targeted 97 times. Eric Stokes gave up just 5.3 yards per target, a lower number than his equally surprising counterpart Rasul Douglas (5.5). He also gave up just three touchdown passes all season. This total was one fewer than Trevon Diggs and equal to Jalen Ramsey’s. AP named both Diggs and Ramsey to First-Team All-Pro in 2021. Equally as impressive, Eric Stokes held opposing quarterbacks to a passer rating of 71.3 when they targeted him. This rivals Ramsey, who gave up a passer rating of 71.1.
After the Packers' 2021 season ended, the media asked head coach Matt LaFleur about Stokes and his role. LaFleur had high praise for the rookie cornerback:
“He comes to work with the right attitude, with the right mentality, and I think he’ll continue to get better and better and better the more we progress through this thing. I just love what he’s all about as a person. I think he has a really great skill set to complement that, and we’re fortunate to have that guy on our football team.”
In 2022, Eric Stokes is now a veteran and considered part of the best cornerback trios in the NFL. Quay Walker and Devonte Wyatt, former college teammates and both first-round picks, now join him on the defense.
The Georgia defense is well-known in college football for being one of the best in the country. Now the Green Bay Packers have three of their best products, and their veteran leader is Eric Stokes.
