When FanDuel Sportsbook was looking for the perfect celebrity athlete to help them kick-off Iowa’s legalization of sports betting they reached out to Mayfield Sports Marketing. Minnesota Viking fans remember how their former defensive tackle John Randle excited the crowd on game day, and 15 years later Mayfield Sports owner and CEO Mark Mayfield knew he was the perfect athlete to get the job done!
“I think 35-W is going to be an awfully busy road, full of people making the trip. It’s an easy trip, and I think it’s going to be a new experience that we’ll be talking about for years to come.”

Sports Betting Comes to Northwood, IA
A large, and excited crowd was on hand at Diamond Jo Casino on Thursday, August 29, 2019, to welcome Randle as he helped cut the ribbon and place the ceremonial first bet at FanDuel’s and Boyd Gaming’s new sportsbook. With $93 in hand, the retired Minnesota Viking’s bet on the Minnesota Twins beating the Chicago White Sox paid tribute to his old jersey number.
In addition to the initial $45,000 licensing fee, Iowa casinos will pay a $10,000 annual renewal fee with Iowa taxing revenues at 6.75% in order to offer sports betting.
Currently, in addition to Iowa 16 other states have legalized sports betting including Arkansas, Delaware, District of Columbia, Illinois, Indiana, Mississippi, Montana, New York, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Islan, Tennessee, and West Virginia.
FanDuel Sportsbook
One of the most popular daily fantasy sports providers, FanDuel recently made its debut in the sports betting industry after the recent Supreme Court ruling. With initial locations in New Jersey and Pennsylvania, FanDuel Sportsbook continues to expand opening locations in Iowa and Indiana in the coming months.
