How does a kid, born and raised in California, make their way to the frozen tundra of Lambeau Field for potential greatness as a Green Bay Packer? If you’re Kenny Clark, the answer is simple: be a four-star recruit out of Wilmer Amina Carter High School in Rialto, CA as a nose tackle, go to UCLA and be one of the best players in the Pac-12, then get drafted by the Packers. Easy, right?
Actually, Kenny Clark has worked very hard to get where he’s at. As one of the best high school football players in the West (and a three-time letterman in wrestling, as well), Clark wanted to stay in California for school. UCLA was an obvious choice, and as a Bruin, Clark performed. By his sophomore year, he was a 13 game starter. By his junior year, after being named 1st team All-Pac-12 (the only Bruin to do so) and third-team All-American, it was time to leave Westwood for the NFL.
The 27th overall pick in the 2016 NFL draft, Clark was glad to see his name called by the venerable Green Bay Packers. His rookie season, he played in all 16 games. His appearance in the season opener against the Jacksonville Jaguars made him the youngest player in franchise history since Arnie Herber in 1930 to play in a season opener. He played in all three playoff games that season.
Since his rookie year, Clark has continued to improve. His second year, he started 15 games and finished with the most tackles on the defensive line and ranked second for sacks and solo tackles. This past season (2018) was even more impressive. Clark was named a Pro Bowl alternate and recorded 55 tackles.
Kenny Clark was known around UCLA for engaging with the community through visits to children’s hospitals and work with various youth football camps. As a Packer, he continues that legacy by participating in Packer events such as the Packers Give Back Celebrity Bowling event and the Packers Tailgate Tour. Clark lives in Los Angeles during the offseason, where he is still involved in hosting a summer youth football camp.
