Jaylon Johnson High School Career

Jaylon Johnson was born in Fresno, California and went to high school at Central East High School in Fresno where he played football and basketball.


In his senior year in football, Johnson played both sides of the ball. The team went 11-2 that season with an average point difference in games won of 24.7. Despite not putting up major numbers for his team, Johnson was recruited as a four-star rated defensive back and in the top 15 players in the state of California.


Johnson was invited to play in the US Army All-American Bowl and received offers from many major programs, such as Georgia, Michigan, Oklahoma, Oregon, USC and Utah. Johnson ultimately chose to commit to Utah in 2017.

Johnson Continues to Shine at Utah

In his freshman year at Utah, Johnson played in all 12 games that season and started 2. In his first year he tied for first in pass breakups for the team and second in passes defended.

In his second year, Johnson took a major jump in his game. He led the team with four interceptions and was eighth in the country for interception return yards with 126. He had 41 total tackles including one sack.

Johnson’s junior year was his final year at Utah, and he continued to play well. He ranked third in the Pac-12 with 11 pass-deflections and caught 2 interceptions. He finished with 36 total tackles on the season as well. Johnson started the 13 games and sat out for his bowl game to prepare for the draft.

Johnson’s accolades include being a two-time All-Pac-12 cornerback, and had 29 starts under his belt. He was drafted as the 50th overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.

Johnson has Made Continuous Progression in the NFL

Johnson walked into a Bears defense that finished as one of the top defensive teams statistically in the previous season. As a rookie, Johnson started in every game he played in at the defensive back position. He finished with 44 total tackles, along with 15 passes defended in 13 games.

In the 2023 season, Johnson made a big jump to be recognized as one of the top defensive backs in the league. He racked up 31 solo tackles and four interceptions, including one returned for a touchdown. Johnson was graded with a 90.8 coverage defense, the best in the NFL. He also earned a Pro-Bowl nomination.
