Jamaal Williams Starred in High School

Jamaal Williams was born outside Los Angeles in the city of Fontana, California and attended Summit High School. In only three seasons of high school football, Williams tallied 2,390 rushing yards on 306 carries and scored 35 rushing touchdowns.

In his senior season, Williams rushed for 1,252 yards and 22 rushing touchdowns while averaging almost nine yards per carry. His offensive dominance helped lead Summit High School to a 13-1 record in his senior season through the playoffs

Williams was recruited by many schools in the western United States, such as Arizona State,Boise State, BYU, Idaho, New Mexico State, San Diego State, UCLA and Utah. The #17 ranked all-purpose running back out of high school ultimately enrolled into BYU.

Jamaal Williams Makes an Immediate Impact at BYU

Williams only saw the field for three seasons at BYU after sitting his freshman year. Once
Williams got his chance, he made an impact for his team. In his freshman year, Williams was the
starter for the program moving forward. He started all 12 games that season and rushed for 1,233
yards with 7 rushing touchdowns. Williams finished 25th in rushing yards in the 2013-2014
season.

Following his outstanding sophomore season, Williams went out early in his junior year when he
suffered a knee injury that left sidelined. His season was cut short with only 7 games played with
4 rushing touchdowns and 518 yards.

Williams came back strong in his final season at BYU in 2016, starting in 9 of the 10 games he
played in, but running for 1,375 yards and scoring 12 touchdowns.

Williams became the all-time rushing leader at BYU and set a school record for rushing yards in
a single game with 286 total rushing yards.

Williams would go on to be drafted in the fifth round of the 2017 NFL draft as the number 134th
overall pick to the Green Bay Packers.

Williams has Remained a Consistent Rusher in the NFL

Despite being a late pick in the 2017 draft, Williams made his presence felt in his rookie year.
Williams played in 16 regular season games while starting in seven. He put up 556 yards and
four touchdowns while also racking up 262 receiving yards and two receiving touchdowns.

Over the next couple of years, Williams averaged between 400-600 yards for the season, but due
to some injuries he was out for many games.

In his second season with the Detroit Lions, however, Williams had the best season of his career.
Playing in 17 games while starting in only 9, Williams logged 1,066 total rushing yards and 17
rushing touchdowns.

Williams signed with the New Orleans Saints going into the 2023 season where he is currently
rostered. After dealing with injuries in 2023, he will look to bounce back and make an impact for
the Saints in 2024.
