Elgton Jenkins was born in Clarksdale, Mississippi and attended Clarksdale High School through his senior year. He was listed as the 15th best prospect out of Mississippi his senior year, and went on to be named Second-Team 5A Mississippi Association of Coaches All-State honors.
Though he played both sides of the ball in high school, he was ultimately recruited as a three-star offensive lineman, where he received offers from Arkansas State, Louisiana Tech, Mississippi State, Temple and UAB. He accepted the offer from Mississippi State.
After redshirting his true-freshman season at Mississippi State, Jenkins went on to play in almost every game in his four more years in college. Following three starts his redshirt freshman year, and five in his second year. In his sophomore year Jenkins finished second in the SEC in passblock efficiency.
He went on to start all games in his junior and senior season. His senior season is where he separated himself as a top player nationally. He received the Ken Hull award for offensive linemen in Mississippi. He only allowed one sack which came after nine games during the season and allowed only six total pressures. In his final collegiate game, he finished fifth among pass-blocking grades for centers during the bowl season.
Jenkins was ranked the number one center prospect for the 2019 draft. He was ultimately selected in the second round as the 44th overall pick to the Green Bay Packers.
Jenkins carried his senior year success into his first season in the NFL. Though he primarily played at the center position in college, Jenkins started 14 of his 16 games at left-guard for the Packers. He was named as a member of the All-Rookie Team in 2019, being only second Packers guard to ever do so.
His versatility at the lineman position has been highlighted in his career. In 2020 he saw snaps as a starter in right tackle, center, and left guard, becoming the only lineman in Green Bay Packers history to do so. He was selected to his first career Pro Bowl that same year. He has been selected one other time in his career.
Jenkins signed a four-year, $68 million extension in 2022. It is the fourth largest contract currently on the team.
