Alvin Kamara was born in Norcross, Georgia and attended Norcross High School. Kamara became a big name in high school football, recognized as a 4-star recruit his senior year and the seventh-best player in the state of Georgia.
In his senior year of high school, Kamra put up record numbers. In 15 games played, he carried the ball 303 times with a total of 2,264 yards and 26 touchdowns.
Kamara was selected in the 2013 Under Armour All-American Game, as well as being invited to an all-star camp hosted by Nike on their campus. He received offers from major schools like Alabama, Georgia, Clemson, Auburn, Florida, and Florida State and Oregon. Kamara ultimately chose to continue his athletic career.
Kamara was walking into another dominant Alabama team with a backfield consisting of three other future NFL players. Kamara’s first year was cut short when had to have knee surgery. After Redshirting the following year, he decided to go to Hutchinson Community College in Hutchinson, Kansas.
In his one year attending Hutchinson, Kamara played nine games and had a total of 1,211 rushing yards and 18 touchdowns, helping his team win eight of the nine games. Kamara was ranked the fourth-best JUCO prospect. Following the season at the community college, Kamara committed to transfer to Tennessee.
Entering Tennessee as a sophomore, Kamara played in all 13 games and ran for 753 rushing yards while tallying seven rushing touchdowns. In his senior year, Kamara became a dual threat in the running and receiving game. He finished with 596 rushing yards and 392 receiving yards with a total of 13 touchdowns.
Kamara would declare for the NFL draft and skip his senior year at Tennessee, where he would be drafted in the third round as the 67th overall pick in the 2017 draft.
Kamara came into the NFL sharing a backfield with Mark Ingram. Even with Ingram having a season of over 1,000 rushing yards, Kamara was still able to get his feet under him early on. In his first year, Kamara played in 16 games where he gained 728 total yards rushing and four touchdowns. What helped his game further was his reliability in the passing game. He gained 826 yards receiving and five touchdowns. Kamara earned Offensive Rookie of the Year as well as being selected as a Pro Bowl participant.
At this point in his career, Kamara has proved himself to be one of the best dual-threat running backs in the NFL. Kamara recorded five consecutive seasons with over 1,300 yards from scrimmage and at least 13 total touchdowns each year. His best season came in 2020 when he rushed for 932 yards and 756 receiving yards. He also scored a career-high 21 total touchdowns during the season, including a six-touchdown game on Christmas.
