AJ Dillon was born in New London, Connecticut and attended New London High School for his freshman year before transferring to Lawrence Academy in Groton, Massachusetts.
In his junior year, Dillon rushed for 1,887 yards and scored 26 rushing touchdowns. In his senior year, the running back broke his leg and missed all but four games, still putting up 12 touchdowns in the short span.
The six-foot tall running back was the number one player in the state and a four-star recruit his senior year. Dillon had many looks for playing college football, including schools like Michigan, Notre Dame, and Florida State. He ultimately stayed close to home when he committed to playing at Boston College.
From the start at Boston College, Dillon made a huge impact on the offensive side on the field. In his freshman year, he played all 13 games. He completed his season with 300 rushing attempts with 1,589 yards rushing, averaging 5.3 yards per carry. His rushing yards were second in the ACC and his 14 touchdowns were third in the conference.
Dillon played only 10 games in his sophomore year, but still broke the 1,000-yard milestone, finishing with 1,108 yards and 10 touchdowns.
In his junior year, his last year in college, Dillon had an almost identical season to his first year. He ran the ball 318 times for 1,685 yards, averaging 5.3 yards per carry again. His total yards were first in the ACC and third in the country. He also scored 14 touchdowns again which was second in the conference.
Dillon’s college career rushing yards total is 4,382 yards, which places him ninth all-time in the ACC. His 38 career rushing touchdowns leaves him fifteenth all-time in the ACC for rushing touchdowns. He left college early to pursue a career in the NFL. Dillon was drafted in the second round as the 50th overall pick in the 2020 Draft by the Green Bay Packers
Dillon came into the NFL on a team with the Packers’ starter, Aaron Jones, beginning to find his stride, but Dillon played the backup role well. In his rookie season, Dillon played in only 11 games, starting two of them. He carried the ball 46 times for 242 yards, ironically, averaging 5.3 yards per carry for the third time in his career. He also scored two rushing touchdowns.
The following year, Dillon had a big jump in his game. He was able to play in all 17 games in the 2021 season. While only starting two games, he put up 803 yards on 187 carries and scored five rushing touchdowns. He also became a solid receiving back for the Packers, registering 313 receiving yards, including a 50-yard gain. He scored two receiving touchdowns in the same year.
Since his first two years, Dillon has continued to play well behind Jones. He put up over 600 yards the last two seasons and continued to be a reliable receiving back. In 2022, he scored a career-high seven touchdowns in the season.
With Aaron Jones leaving for the Minnesota Vikings, Dillon’s role was expected to increase. However, before the regular season began, he suffered a season-ending neck injury.
