Aaron Jones was born in Savannah, Georgia, but due to his dad being in the military, Jones found himself playing multiple high school sports at Burges High School in El Paso, Texas.
Jones had a strong season in his junior year of football. He rushed for a total of 1,438 yards, averaging just under 11 yards per carry. He also scored 16 rushing touchdowns.
Though Jones played ran track and field and played basketball, football is what he pursued. He was named the 1-4A District MVP honors and was also named to the National All-Department of Defense team. As a three-star recruit out of high school, He stayed home and enrolled with his twin brother into the University of Texas El-Paso.
As a freshman in college, Jones began to make a name for himself. He started in six of the nine games he participated in his first year. He ran for a team freshman record of 811 yards and rushed for four touchdowns. His rushing yards were sixth-best in the country for freshman running backs. He was named to the C-USA all-freshman team.
Jones continued his strong running in his sophomore season. He started in 12 games and missed one due to injury. Through 12 games, he recorded 1,321 total rushing yards. He also scored 11 rushing touchdowns and averaged 110 yards per game. Jones had a career-high 237 rushing yards in the season opener. He was named 2nd Team-All C-USA in his second season.
After a short-lived junior season due to injury, Jones returned to himself for his last season at UTEP. In the 2016 season, Jones started all 12 games and racked up a total of 1,773 rushing yards which was a school record. He also scored 17 touchdowns which was the third most in a season in program history. He also received three passing touchdowns and even had a throwing touchdown during the season.
Jones left UTEP as its all-time rushing leader with 4,114 total yards and seventh in the conference. He also set a record for 100-yard rushing games with 17 total. With 33 career rushing touchdowns, he finished second in school history.
He was drafted in the 5th round as the 182nd overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft.
Jones was one of two running backs the Packers drafted in the 2017 NFL Draft, so he and Jamaal Williams mixed it up throughout the season. Jones started four of twelve games played and finished with 448 total rushing yards and a team-high four rushing touchdowns.
In his third season with the Packers, Jones had a standout year that helped solidify himself as a good running back NFL. He was able to start all 16 games that season and had his first career 1,000+ yard rushing season with 1,084 total rushing yards. Jones tied for first in that same season with 16 rushing touchdowns.
In the following years, Jones would go on to put up solid seasons, including his first Pro Bowl game in 2020, as well as two more seasons of more than 1,000 yards. Unfortunately, injuries kept Jones sidelined for many games in the following years. He begins his first season with the Minnesota Vikings after signing a one-year $7 million contract this past offseason.
Jones is not only a great player but a great person as well. He was nominated for the Walter Payton Man of the Year award in 2023 for his charity work.
