Santana Dotson, a Baylor All American in 1991, was a fifth-round draft selection by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the 1992 NFL Draft. His prowess on defense led to him receiving the 1992 NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year. He also played a key role in getting the Green Bay Packers to two Super Bowls. Dotson is a unanimous All-American and a Super Bowl champion.
Santana Dotson was selected with the 132nd pick in the 1992 NFL Draft by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He spent seasons 1992-1995 with the Buccaneers until signing with Green Bay. In the 1996 season, the Green Bay Packers beat the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XXXI thus crowning Dotson a Super Bowl Champion. Dotson went from being on a last-place team to a Super Bowl ring in one year. His drive and determination helped him overcome the drastic change that was moving from Florida to Wisconsin.
He had to adapt to, not only the climate difference but also the difference in a team mentality. Once he started in Green Bay, he had to have the same championship mentality that all the others Packers harbored. It was actually Reggie White who called Dotson and recruited him to Green Bay. Dotson assisted Reggie White in creating a dominant defensive front line for the Packers. Behind Dotson and their defense, the Packers went on to participate in two Super Bowls, winning one of the two. After spending 1996-2001 in Green Bay, Dotson finished his career with the Washington Redskins, playing only in the 2002 season for the team.
Off the field, Dotson has set up his own foundation, The Santana Dotson Foundation. This foundation was established in 1995 to provide both financial and emotional assistance to high school students trying to reach their dreams of collegiate education with annual scholarships.
He now resides in Houston, Texas. Dotson is currently working on becoming an NFL broadcaster and appears on the “Bob and Brian Show” on WHQG Radio in Milwaukee, during the NFL Regular Season.
