John Kuhn did not arrive in Green Bay with much fanfare. But he built his fame the hard way. Over nine seasons with the Packers, he turned grit into a legacy. By the time he left after the 2015 season, fans at Lambeau Field did not just cheer. They roared “Kuuuuhn.” That chant said everything about how he became an icon.

John Kuhn entered the NFL in 2006 as an undrafted free agent with the Steelers. Then, things started to change when the Packers acquired him off waivers later that year. From then, he stayed in Green Bay from 2007 through 2015. With them, he played 139 regular-season games and scored 34 TDs.
His role never centred on numbers. He blocked. He protected the quarterback. He handled short-yardage runs. When A-Rod won MVP awards in 2011 and 2014, Kuhn cleared space in the backfield. Coaches trusted him in key moments.
The 2010 season changed everything. Green Bay ended the regular season with a 10-6 record, but they really took off in the playoffs. Back on Jan. 23, 2011, in the NFC title game vs the Chicago Bears, Kuhn ran into the end zone. A few days later, on Feb. 6, the Packers won the Super Bowl by beating Pittsburgh 31-25. That win put Kuhn's name on the list of NFL stunning stars.
Not many saw fullbacks coming into the spotlight, yet his efforts changed that. But with his stunning performances, Kuhn has garnered enough recognition in the league circles. Three Pro Bowls back to back - 2011, then 2012, followed by 2013 - marked his rise. By 2014, top recognition arrived: first-team All-Pro. Most overlooked players like him never reached such heights. He pushed past silence, demanding attention.
Years later, he still defended Green Bay’s culture. On Jan. 13, 2025, during an appearance on Clubhouse Live with the Post-Crescent, Kuhn said, “There’s no better place for a player to build a legacy than Green Bay.” He stressed that players who want to focus only on football will not find a better setup.
That statement fits his career. Green Bay drafted and developed talent. The team valued toughness. Kuhn matched that identity. He never chased headlines. He chased blocks and first downs.
And, even when he signed with the New Orleans Saints in 2016, his place in Packers history still felt something different.
