The University of Wisconsin has incredibly high academic standards. This is something that they refuse to compromise on when it comes to athletics. In other words, any athlete that comes to play at Wisconsin must have and maintain high grades. One can tell that Wisconsin values intelligence by listening to any of its athletes during interviews. Such was the case last week when Badgers men’s basketball point guard Chucky Hepburn appeared on “Nine 2 Noon” with John Kuhn on 97.3 The Game.
One of the things discussed on the show was the role potential NIL deals play in recruiting college athletes. Co-host Brian Butch pointed out that there seems to be a more level playing field in today’s college basketball than in years past. That is because the highest level of talent among high school recruits no longer limits itself to commitments to so-called “basketball schools.” Instead, NIL opportunities have caused players to accept scholarship offers from a bigger variety of schools.
When asked about his opinion on the role of NIL in the recruitment of college athletes, Chucky Hepburn said: “I definitely don’t think the NIL game is as big as it is in football, but it definitely has a big majority in decision-making for basketball as well.”
