Eddie Lacy was one of the most feared runners of the last decade, making an impact on the game during his playing career. The once NFL Rookie of the Year is in the next chapter of his life now, but he collected some major recognition before moving on.

Eddie Lacy joined a loaded running back room at Alabama. The presence of Mark Ingram and Trent Richardson led to Lacy being redshirted as a freshman. That team went on to win the 2009 BCS National Championship. In 2010 Lacy found a spot on the team behind Ingram and Richardson. He went on to have a good season despite being behind to Alabama greats.

In 2011, after Mark's departure to the NFL, Eddie Lacy burst onto the scene. He ran for over 600 yards and seven touchdowns while sharing the backfield with Trent Richardson. He would also win a second BCS National Championship.

The 2012 season was Lacy's final and best season in Tuscaloosa. He was the true starter for the first time in college and ran for 1,322 yards and 17 touchdowns. He also caught two touchdowns. In the BCS Championship Game against Notre Dame, he had 140 rushing yards and two total touchdowns. This earned him the honor of Offensive MVP of the game. He would declare for the NFL Draft after the season concluded.

Pre-NFL Days For Marquez Valdes-Scantling

Marquez Valdes-Scantling was born on Oct. 10, 1994. He attended and played high school football at Lakewood High School in St. Petersburg, Fla. As a senior, he recorded 50 receptions for 800 receiving yards and 14 receiving touchdowns.  

Valdes-Scantling attended two different colleges before being drafted into the NFL. The first was with the North Carolina State Wolfpack. During his two seasons there, he played in 16 games, recorded 44 receptions, 538 receiving yards, and one touchdown.

After his sophomore season, he transferred to the University of South Florida (USF). There he played out his junior and senior seasons, breaking out in a big way. During those two years, he hauled in 75 receptions, 1,294 receiving yards, and 11 touchdowns. His senior season showed NFL scouts that he had what it took to play in the NFL, and boy, they were right.

Marquez Valdes-Scantling Joins The NFL & Breaks Out

Marquez Valdes-Scantling was drafted by the Green Bay Packers with the 174th overall pick in the fifth round of the 2018 NFL Draft. He would spend his first four years in the league playing for the Green and Gold. During those four years, he averaged 15 games played per season, starting just shy of 10. He also averaged over 30 receptions, 538 receiving yards, and just over three touchdowns per year.

Following the 2021 season, he tested free agency, which paid off big time. The Kansas City Chiefs would sign him to a massive three-year $30 million dollar contract with $15 million guaranteed – an incredible payday for a former fifth-round pick.  

In 2022, Marquez Valdes-Scantling recorded 42 receptions, 687 receiving yards, and three touchdowns. He also showed up big-time during the 2022-23 playoffs, recording seven receptions, 122 receiving yards, and two touchdowns in three games. He played a big role in the Chiefs' postseason run, helping them win Super Bowl LVII 38-35 against the Philadelphia Eagles on Feb. 12, 2023.

Jamaal Williams has officially joined the New Orleans Saints after spending the last two seasons with the Detroit Lions. Williams agreed to a three-year, $12-million deal, with $8.15 million guaranteed, keeping him in "The Big Easy" until 2026.

2022 was a career year for Williams, leading the NFL in rushing TDs (17) and contributing to the Lions' first winning season since 2017.

What To Expect From Jamaal Williams in 2023

In his six NFL seasons, Williams has rushed for 3,652 yards, 30 touchdowns and 216 first downs. In his first full season of being the lead back in 2022, he had his first 1,000-yard season.

The Saints rushed 27.4 times per game last season but focused more on the run game down the stretch. That number could increase with Williams sharing the backfield with Alvin Kamara, an elite pass-catcher. Derek Carr, also applauded for his leadership during his time as a Raider, will be under the center for the Saints this season. The Green Bay Packers have not been too active in free agency. However, they prioritized bringing back one of their 2022 standouts; All-Pro kick returner and cornerback Keisean Nixon.

Nixon's new contract is a one-year/$4 million deal. The deal has four void years meaning that while he will be paid past 2023, he will be an unrestricted free agent in 2024. It has been a long time since Green Bay has had an electric kick returner, so if Nixon has another All-Pro caliber season, he may be brought back again on a more long-term basis.

Keisean Nixon's NFL Career

2022 was Nixon's first season with the Green Bay Packers. He spent the last three seasons with the Raiders in both Oakland and Las Vegas. He played 692 snaps on special teams in three seasons with the Raiders. When Rich Bisaccia was hired as the special team coordinator Keisean Nixon signed with the Packers. Although he did not start the year off as the team's primary kick returner, he never looked back after getting the job.

Nixon became the full-time kick returner in Week 8 and made an instant impact. Despite not getting the job until halfway through the year, he finished the season with 1,009 kick return yards, leading the NFL. As a Packer, Nixon also made an impact on defense. Injuries in the secondary led to more playing time at cornerback, and Nixon filled in well. He started four games and recorded one interception, two passes defended, 28 tackles, and one tackle for a loss.

Keisean Nixon: The Future of the Packers' Special Teams

With news that team veterans Aaron Rodgers, Randall Cobb, and Allen Lazard could all be out the door and heading to New York, Green Bay is going through a transitioning period. Nixon will join the likes of RBs AJ Dillon and Aaron Jones, plus WR Christian Watson, as some of the only proven play-makers on the Packers.

Allen Lazard, former Green Bay Packers wide receiver, has found himself a new home. After playing the first five seasons of his career for the Green Bay Packers, Lazard decided to test free agency. As it turns out, the Allen Lazard contract was one of the highest-paying among 2023 NFL free agents.

Jordan Schultz reports that Lazard has agreed to a four-year deal worth $44M and $22M of that guaranteed with the New York Jets. Lazard leaves Green Bay after four seasons and is now taking the next step in his career.

The 27-year-old Lazard caught 169 passes for 2,236 yards and 20 touchdowns in his five seasons with the Packers. Lazard got better as the years went on and had a career season in 2022 as a go-to target for Aaron Rodgers in the Packers' offense.

Allen Lazard is known for doing the dirty work on the field consistently. He has become one of the best blocking wide receivers in the NFL. Lazard has been seen consistently blocking his defender 10-15 yards past the line of scrimmage. The NFL certainly recognized his game and paid him accordingly.

Desmond Howard accomplished so much in his collegiate and professional career that the more you dig into it, the more impressive it becomes. Howard was born on May 15, 1970, in Cleveland, Ohio. Howard earned All-American and All-Ohio honors as a tailback during his senior season at St. Joseph High School in Cleveland. He scored 18 touchdowns and a record-breaking 5,392 rushing yards, as well as 10 interceptions on defense. He earned three varsity letters in track, football and basketball.

After his high school career, he chose to attend the University of Michigan, where his talents were put on display for the entire nation.  e originally committed to playing running back at Michigan. However, three days into his first camp, he was moved to wide receiver. The rest, as they say, was history. After rarely being used his freshman year, he broke out as a sophomore. That year he recorded 63 catches for 1,025 yards and 11 touchdowns. Additionally, he showed his versatility by running for 58 yards and averaging 29.6 yards on kickoffs, with a touchdown return.

Desmond Howard Put The Nation On Notice During His Junior Year

Desmond Howard's junior season is when he showed that he was truly something special. His acrobatic catches and explosive returns made him one of the most electrifying players ever to play the college game. He became the first receiver in Big Ten history to lead the conference in scoring (138 points). He set or tied five NCAA records and had 12 single-season Michigan records. Howard caught 61 passes for 960 yards and an astounding 19 touchdowns.

He also rushed 12 times for 165 yards and two TDs. In his return game, he averaged 15.3 yards (with a TD) on punt returns and 31 yards on kick returns (with a TD). The All-American won the Heisman by the second-largest margin of victory in the trophy’s history. He was also awarded the Walter Camp Trophy and the Maxwell Award that year before graduating from the University of Michigan with a Bachelor's degree in Mass Communications. After his junior year, he declared for the 1992 NFL draft. The Washington Redskins selected him fourth overall.

Desmond Howard's NFL Career

Desmond Howard bounced around five different teams during his 11-year NFL career. Howard spent time with the Washington Redskins (1992-1994), Jacksonville Jaguars (1995), Green Bay Packers (1996 and 1999), Oakland Raiders (1997-1998) and Detroit Lions (1999-2002). The highlight of his career certainly came during the 1996 season with the Green Bay Packers. That season he led the NFL in punt returns (58), punt return yards (875) punt return average (15.1), and punt return touchdowns (three). He also recorded 460 kickoff return yards. His 875 punt return yards set an NFL record that year.

He continued his success during the 1996 post-season. Howard had a punt return for a touchdown in a game between the Packers and the San Francisco 49ers. He also had a 46-yard punt return that set up another score. The Packers would go on to win that game and face the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XXXI. Late in the third quarter, Drew Bledsoe led the Patriots down the field to score a touchdown and trim the Patriots' deficit to six. The very next play, Desmond Howard would make history.

The Patriots boomed the ensuing kickoff to the one-yard line, but Howard effectively shattered the Patriots' hopes for a comeback with a 99-yard kickoff return for a Packers touchdown. His return and the Packers' subsequent two-point conversion closed out the game's scoring, and the Packers eventually won 35–21. Desmond Howard took home Super Bowl MVP honors. Desmond Howard also earned Pro Bowl honors with the Detroit Lions in 2000.

What Is Desmond Howard Doing Now?

Desmond Howard joined ESPN in 2005 as a college football analyst. He has been an analyst on the Emmy-Award winning "College GameDay Built by The Home Depot" since 2005 and also calls midweek games on ESPN. He also contributes to a number of ESPN shows and platforms, including "Get Up," "SportsCenter," and "College Football Live." In 2011, Howard was selected for the College Football Hall of Fame. He has also been inducted into the Gator Bowl Hall of Fame, the University of Michigan Hall Of Honor, the State of Michigan Sports Hall of Fame, and the Cleveland Sports Hall of Fame. Calvin Johnson, stats aside, is one of the most talented wide receivers to ever play in the NFL. From 2007-2015 Calvin Johnson captivated Detroit Lions fans and the NFL. Johnson was born on Sept. 29, 1985, in Newnan, Ga. "Megatron" attended Sandy Creek High School in Tyrone, Ga. There he was a letterman in football and a baseball. As a junior, Johnson caught 40 passes for 736 yards and eight touchdowns.  

Johnson attended Georgia Tech University from 2004 to 2006.  During those three years, he recorded 178 receptions, 2,927 receiving yards, and 28 touchdowns. His legacy at Georgia Tech, when he left, was incredible. He set the following records for their football team:

The Kansas City Chiefs defeated the Philadelphia Eagles 38-35 to win Super Bowl LVII. Marquez Valdes-Scantling (MVS) was one of the heroes in the AFC Championship Game. He and the Kansas City Chiefs are headed to the Super Bowl. One season after leaving the Green Bay Packers, where he also made deep playoff runs, MVS heads to the biggest game in American sports.
