Mayfield grew up in north central Indiana, where sports shaped his early life. He later studied psychology, criminal justice, and sociology at Indiana University. That mix helped him understand people and later build strong relationships with athletes and clients in sports marketing. He credits that environment for his later competitive mindset in business.

In the interview, he spoke about his early days: “Grind up in Indiana, I loved sports like football, baseball, basketball, IndyCar, hockey and golf. Playing with older kids pushed my skills and built my competitive spirit.”

His break came while working as a director of sales at a Wisconsin resort. A visiting Green Bay Packers legend, Gilbert Brown, stayed there, and Mayfield asked to share breakfast. That meeting turned into a website project, then autograph events and weekend trips to Lambeau Field.

He said, “He [Gilbert] asked me to build a website for him and that launched a side business as I started getting business inquiries for him for speaking engagements and autograph sessions. I then started traveling on my days off on the weekend to Green Bay Packer home games in which we met fans, sold memorabilia and autographs.”

Over time, Gilbert Brown introduced him to LeRoy Butler, Santana Dotson, William Henderson and other Packers names. By 2012, after leaving his resort job, Mayfield launched his own firm. The agency grew into a platform where businesses in Wisconsin can hire Green Bay Packers players and book them for corporate events.

In the same interview, Mayfield said: “I pride myself on calling business inquiries back the same day. Matching the right athlete with the right event matters more than just closing a deal.” This approach helped Mayfield Sports Marketing build repeat corporate clients across Wisconsin.
