Back on Jan. 3, 1993, the Buffalo Bills erased a 35-3 deficit against the Oilers in an AFC wild-card game. It still stands as the most phenomenal comeback in the NFL realm. Frank Reich threw four second-half TD passes. But Andre Reed’s comeback performance remains the turning point that people do not talk about enough.
Read along to know more about Reed’s performance, and learn how to book Reed for an event or book a Packers player for a speaking engagement in Wisconsin.
How Andre Reed’s Three Touchdowns Swung Buffalo’s 41-38 Playoff Comeback

Context matters here. Reed did not enter that playoff game as the focal point of the offense. During the 1992 season, his production dipped. After scoring 10 TDs in 1991, he had just three in 1992. Over the final 10 regular-season games, he averaged 2.7 catches for 31 yards. Defenses stopped treating him like the primary threat.
Before kickoff on Jan. 3, 1993, with Jim Kelly sidelined, Reed pulled backup quarterback Frank Reich aside. He later told The Baltimore Sun what he said at that moment: “Frank, you have to get the ball to me, it’s time. The chips are down, and you need everybody playing.” That was not frustration. But urgency.
When the Bills fell behind 35-3 early in the third quarter, the comeback was needed more than short throws and hope. That is where Reed made his presence felt. He caught eight passes for 136 yards and 3 TDs. All three scores came in the second half. He scored from 26 yards, then 18, then 17. The final TD came with 3:08 left in the 4th quarter and gave the Buffs its first lead of the day at 38-35. That catch did not just add points. It changed the pressure. Houston, which had managed the game for two quarters, suddenly had to respond.
Reich threw the passes. Reed finished the drives. After the game, Reich explained that Houston likely did not key on Reed because of his quiet stretch late in the season. That misread cost them. Reed found space in coverage and punished it.
The Buffs won 41-38 in overtime on Christie’s 32-yard field goal. Reich’s stat line shows 289 yards and four TDs. No doubt it's impressive. But Reed accounted for three of those TDs and managed the go-ahead score in the last minutes. But the greatest comeback in NFL history carries Frank Reich’s name. It should carry Andre Reed’s just as loudly.
