Tucker Kraft
Only 36 players have been drafted into the NFL from South Dakota State University. Only 38 players from the university have ever played in the NFL. The only South Dakota State Jackrabbit drafted into the league in 2023 was current Green Bay Packers tight end Tucker Kraft.
Kraft was born in South Dakota and decided to stay close to home to play college football, despite a late offer from Wyoming. He redshirted as a true freshman and caught just seven passes in his second year. However, in 2022, he broke out, catching 65 balls for 780 yards and six touchdowns. He was a consensus FCS All-American and All-Missouri Valley Football Conference.
In the 2023 NFL Draft, the Packers drafted Luke Musgrave in the second round. However, that did not stop the team from selecting Kraft in the third round. Kraft came into the season behind Musgrave on the depth chart, but quickly started to make a name for himself.
In his first eight games, Kraft had just two catches. However, in his final nine regular-season games, he made eight starts. He had 350 yards on 29 receptions and scored two touchdowns. He even scored a touchdown in the playoffs against the San Francisco 49ers.
In 2024, Kraft started all 17 games for the Packers. He finished the season with 707 yards and established himself as one of the team’s top options. His physical play style and steady hands were a breath of fresh air for the Packers. He scored seven touchdowns, which was the most by a Packers tight end since 2020 when Robert Tonyan scored 11 times.
Kraft has proven to be a fierce competitor, on and off the field. Recently, he has made it known his love of playing pickleball, but he takes it just as seriously as he would an NFL Game.
Kraft was named an honorary member of the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe in 2024 for his community service on the reservation. He wears a Cheyenne River Sioux tribal flag on his football helmet.
