Isaiah McDuffie
Isaiah McDuffie started his career with the Green Bay Packers as a depth piece on the defense. However, he has turned himself into a very valuable piece of their defense.
McDuffie attended Boston College, where he played four seasons of college football. He played in eight games as a freshman, but failed to make a real impact. In his second season, he had 3 1/2 sacks and 85 tackles. He finished his college career with 230 tackles, 17 tackles for a loss and 8 1/2 sacks. The Packers selected him in the sixth round of the 2021 NFL Draft.
McDuffie was buried on the depth chart as a rookie, notching just two tackles on the season. However, in 2022, some injuries paved the way for him to make an impact.
He played in 17 games in his second season and even made one start. He finished the year with 43 tackles. Despite making a limited impact in his first two seasons, he found a home on special teams. He played over 400 special teams snaps in his first two seasons.
In Year 3, he still played 202 special teams snaps. However, he played a career high of 513 snaps on the Packers' defense. He also made a career high of eight starts. He had 86 tackles and gave the Packers a reason to believe in him going into 2024.
In 2024, McDuffie started 17 games and played 699 snaps on defense. His role on special teams was significantly reduced as the Packers looked to get him more involved in Jeff Hafley’s defense. He had 97 tackles and picked up half a sack on the season.
After four seasons of growth, the Packers signed McDuffie to a new contract before the 2025 season. He signed a two-year, $8 million extension before he hit free agency. He figures to play a key role alongside Quay Walker and Edgerrin Cooper.
Even though he may not have been a high draft pick, he has worked his way into an important role on the Packers. The team has Super Bowl aspirations year in and year out, and McDuffie will be a big factor in achieving them.
