Dave Robinson
The Green Bay Packers are the most historic franchise in the National Football League, and many phenomenal players have worn their colors over the years. The Packers are among the leaders in terms of Hall of Famers, and one of those Hall of Famers is linebacker Dave Robinson.
Before he was a star in the NFL, Robinson was a superstar at Penn State University. He was the MVP of the 1962 Gator Bowl and made an impact on both sides of the ball during his college career.
The Packers selected him in the first round of the 1936 NFL Draft. In 1997, he was recognized for his college football career and was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame.
Robinson arrived in Green Bay after also being drafted by the San Diego Chargers in the AFL Draft and the Montreal Alouettes of the Canadian Football League. He ended up joining the Packers, a decision that ended up being great for him.
The Packers turned him into a linebacker. After serving as a backup as a rookie, he became a key player for the Packers in his second season. Robinson played 127 games for the Packers in his career. He recorded 21 interceptions and 22 sacks in 105 starts.
He was also a three-time Pro Bowler and two-time All-Pro with the Packers. Robinson was also named a member of the Hall of Fame All-1960s Team. However, his biggest contribution to the Packers came in the form of championships.
He won three NFL Championships with the Packers and two Super Bowls. The Packers pride themselves on championships, and have Robinson to thank for helping bring five to Titletown. In 1972, Robinson joined Washington.
He played the final two years of his career with Washington. He also scored his lone career touchdown with the team. In 1982, the Packers inducted Robinson into the team’s Hall of Fame.
While the Packers had already recognized him as a Hall of Famer, in 2013, he was inducted into the NFL Hall of Fame. He was the sixth Penn State Nittany Lion to be inducted into the NFL Hall of Fame.
Rbinson’s career has been well recognized, but his impact on the Packers cannot be overstated. In the early years of football and through the historic merger, Robinson helped start a championship culture for the Packers franchise.
