Courtesy Packers Hall Of Fame: William Henderson Turns Focus To Frozen Yogurt
Former Green Bay Packers fullback William Henderson was known for crushing opponents on the frozen tundra of Lambeau Field. Now he’s turning his attention to something a little more family-friendly — frozen yogurt.
Henderson recently got involved with Sweet Frog, a chain of premium frozen yogurt shops based in his hometown of Richmond, Virginia. The company, which was launched by Derek Cha in 2009, has grown from one location to 100 in three years. Henderson said he expects there will be 200 locations by the end of 2013 and he’s currently working to open the first two Wisconsin locations — one in Plover, near Stevens Point, and one in Whitefish Bay.
“I got the opportunity to bring the franchise to the midwest and I love the challenge,” Henderson said. “Some people think I was crazy to bring ice to the midwest.”
Despite that, Henderson is confident Sweet Frog will be a success in this often frigid part of the country. Not only does Sweet Frog offer a healthy alternative to ice cream or custard, they also promote family and community involvement, which always play well in a region heavily focused on family values.
“I look forward to doing all I can to be that guy who’s supportive of the community,” Henderson said.
The first Wisconsin Sweet Frog — located at 140 Crossroads Commons Dr. in Plover — is expected to open later this week. The Whitefish Bay location — located at 404 E. Silver Spring Dr. — is scheduled to follow suit next week.
Henderson played his entire 12-year career with the Packers, retiring in 2006. He was inducted into the Packers Hall of Fame in 2011.
