Rasul Douglas knows what it is like to move around a lot. From November 2, 2020, to October 6, 2021, he played for or was on the practice squad of four different NFL teams. After spending the first three seasons of his career with the Philadelphia Eagles (and winning a Super Bowl), Douglas played for the Carolina Panthers in 2020.
Following the 2020 season, Rasul Douglas signed with the Las Vegas Raiders. They decided to release him, though, during the 2021 preseason. After his release, he spent time on the practice squads of the Houston Texans and Arizona Cardinals.
Meanwhile, the Green Bay Packers had a cornerback problem. Despite having Eric Stokes and Jaire Alexander, both partners of Mayfield Sports, the team needed a boost in the secondary. Alexander hurt his shoulder and was out for the remainder of the season. As a result, the Packers plucked Rasul Douglas off of the Arizona Cardinals’ practice squad and thrust him into action.
Ironically, the first game Douglas played for the Packers was against the Arizona Cardinals. The back-and-forth contest saw the Packers lose Robert Tonyan to a torn ACL. Green Bay was already short-handed with Davante Adams, Allen Lazard, and Marquez Valdes-Scantling all out.
Fortunately, the Packers have Aaron Rodgers, and he helped give the Packers the lead late in the fourth quarter. The Cardinals got the ball back with less than two minutes left in the game and proceeded to march down the field. Then, with the clock winding down, Cardinals’ quarterback Kyler Murray threw to A.J. Green in the end zone. Rasul Douglas picked the ball cleanly, consequently clinching the victory for the Green Bay Packers.
Not only did Douglas’ interception seal the win, but he also led the Packers' defense with nine tackles and two passes defended. It was a sign of things to come.
Rasul Douglas missed the 2021 Pro Bowl in votes. However, they voted him in as a Pro Bowl alternate. Had he been able to play a full season with the Packers, he almost certainly would have been voted into the contest. Perhaps he would have even been named an All-Pro.
In 12 games (nine starts) with the Green Bay Packers, Rasul Douglas had 57 total tackles, 13 passes defended, and five interceptions. Douglas returned two of these interceptions for touchdowns. His two defensive touchdowns led the NFL.
While these stats look great, they do not tell the full story of how great Douglas is. The advanced stats show how much of a game-changer Douglas was for the Green Bay Packers.
In 2021, Rasul Douglas allowed just 32 receptions on 64 targets. His 5.5 yards allowed per target were by far the best in his career. Ironically, Douglas scored just as many touchdowns himself (two) as he gave up to opposing wide receivers. Perhaps the most impressive stat of all, though, is that quarterbacks had a rating of just 44.5 when targeting Douglas.
After the Green Bay Packers exited the playoff early, Rasul Douglas’ contract with the team was up. In his postseason press conference, he expressed to the media that he wanted to return to the Packers, “If they will have me.” He previously had expressed this desire to Matt LaFleur privately.
Fortunately, the Green Bay Packers felt the same way and offered Rasul Douglas a three-year $21 million contract. Now, the Packers' defense boasts Douglas, Alexander, and Stokes as their top three cornerbacks, certainly the best trio in the NFL.

Packers fans debate every offseason if the Packers draft a wide receiver in the first round of the NFL Draft. It is a useless practice at this point. Green Bay has not taken a receiver in the first round since 2002. With their first-round pick in 2021, the Packers selected Eric Stokes, cornerback from the University of Georgia. The pick may not have been the one that fans wanted. However, it ended up being the one the Packers needed last regular season.
When the Packers selected Eric Stokes, he projected to be their third cornerback behind starters Jaire Alexander and Kevin King. Stokes played just eight defensive snaps in the Packers’ Week 1 loss to the Saints. However, both Alexander and King missed significant time with injuries in 2021. Eric Stokes became a starter from then on.
Of course, Rasul Douglas was signed to help provide some relief in the secondary. It was an excellent pickup as he had five interceptions in 12 games (two of which he returned for touchdowns). However, Stokes also established himself as a premier lockdown cornerback in the NFL.
In 16 games (12 starts) for the Packers, Eric Stokes had 14 passes defended, one interception, and 55 tackles. As a rookie cornerback, opposing quarterbacks often targeted Stokes, hoping to take advantage of his inexperience. The joke was on them, though. During training camp in 2021, Aaron Rodgers and Davante Adams spent many practices picking on him. While it would have been easy to become frustrated, Eric Stokes realized that Rodgers and Adams are the best at their respective positions. By picking on him early and often, they prepared him for the role he would eventually take on.
As a result of practicing against the best quarterback and wide receiver in the NFL for weeks, Stokes put up numbers that most cornerbacks could only dream of. He allowed 48 receptions (49.5 completion percentage). This is despite being targeted 97 times. Eric Stokes gave up just 5.3 yards per target, a lower number than his equally surprising counterpart Rasul Douglas (5.5). He also gave up just three touchdown passes all season. This total was one fewer than Trevon Diggs and equal to Jalen Ramsey’s. AP named both Diggs and Ramsey to First-Team All-Pro in 2021. Equally as impressive, Eric Stokes held opposing quarterbacks to a passer rating of 71.3 when they targeted him. This rivals Ramsey, who gave up a passer rating of 71.1.
After the Packers' 2021 season ended, the media asked head coach Matt LaFleur about Stokes and his role. LaFleur had high praise for the rookie cornerback:
“He comes to work with the right attitude, with the right mentality, and I think he’ll continue to get better and better and better the more we progress through this thing. I just love what he’s all about as a person. I think he has a really great skill set to complement that, and we’re fortunate to have that guy on our football team.”
In 2022, Eric Stokes is now a veteran and considered part of the best cornerback trios in the NFL. Quay Walker and Devonte Wyatt, former college teammates and both first-round picks, now join him on the defense.
The Georgia defense is well-known in college football for being one of the best in the country. Now the Green Bay Packers have three of their best products, and their veteran leader is Eric Stokes.

The Packers actually have multiple ways to clinch this week; out of all of these, I'd say this easiest scenario is No. 3. In that situation, the Packers would clinch a spot if they beat the Lions AND if the Seahawks beat the Jets.
The Packers could also clinch the NFC North title with a win combined with a Vikings loss or tie to the Buccaneers. If the Packers tie the Lions, they would also clinch as long as Minnesota lost to Tampa Bay.
Why Green Bay Packers Will Win
This didn’t go all that well the first time around for the Lions.
The Packer offense was almost perfectly balanced in the 42-21 win, the defense didn’t allow much on the ground, and there weren’t any real issues. That’s how the team has played over the last several weeks – at least outside of an overtime loss to Indianapolis.
Aaron Rodgers has been unstoppable, the defense hasn’t allowed a 300-yard passer all year, and Detroit’s defense has been awful at giving up deep passes.
Green Bay is expecting a great game from their stars: Jaire Alexander , Aaron Jones and Davante Adams

On Tuesday, April 12 we had a great time at the 5th annual Wisconsin Sports Awards put on by Good Karma Brands at The American Club in Kohler, Wisc.
The stars were out including Packers QB Brett Hundley, WR Ty Montgomery, Mike Daniels, Badger and NFL hopeful Joe Schobert, Bo Ryan and Barry Alvarez. Some very talented professional athletes received awards that were much deserved, including our friend Mike Daniels, who won Professional Athlete of the Year.
Daniels just earned a huge four-year contract extension with the Green Bay Packers that many fans are excited about, to say the least. In the 2015-16 season, Daniels had a total of 27 tackles, four sacks, one interception and one forced fumble. He is a key player on the Packers’ defense.
We want to thank the Wisconsin Sports Awards again for such a great and well put together event, we hope to see you next year!

During a recent interview on the show "Highly Questionable", our friend and partner James Jones talked about his struggles with homelessness as a child and how it has inspired him today to not only stay humble as one of the top wide receivers in the league, but also to start his own non-profit foundation.
Love Jones 4 Kids Foundation was started by Jones and his wife, Tamika. The mission of the foundation is to "enrich the lives of children living in disadvantaged and underserved communities by conducting and sponsoring a variety of programs to help young people overcome obstacles, stay in school and prepare for challenges in life."
Jones also shared a romantic, yet semi-humorous story while on the show. He shared the story of his proposal to his wife. It took place at one of her favorite restaurants, Red Lobster. Jones went to the restaurant the day before he popped the question to set the proposal up. The next night when they were out for dinner, not only did Tamika's favorite delicious cheddar biscuits get served to their table, but along came a diamond ring with Tamika's name on it!
We have said it before and we will say it again, Mayfield Sports is proud to work with a man as humble and hardworking as James Jones. He gives back to the community and is a wonderful person to be around and learn from. The best part? James is available to book for your next event as a motivational speaker.

Packers Jeff Janis Hail Mary
Now that America knows Jeff Janis' name, you will find he is a Green Bay Packer through and through. The Packer Way means Humble, Educated and Team First, Individual Achievements a Distant Second. If you haven't met Jeff Janis, you are in for a treat as he loves to play football and just wants to help his team win. Catching HailMary2 this season couldn't have happened to a nicer and team oriented player. We are very proud to work with him.
GLENDALE, Ariz. -- When the Green Bay Packers signed James Jones the week of the regular-season opener, it knocked Jeff Janis down a peg on the depth chart at receiver.
Jones immediately became Aaron Rodgers’ No. 3 receiver, and Janis could barely get off the bench.
As productive as Jones was at various times this season (he had eight touchdowns and a career-high 890 yards), Saturday’s 26-20 NFC divisional playoff loss to the Arizona Cardinals showed Jones’ limitations and once again brought up one of the most popular questions of the season: Should Janis play more?
For all of Janis’ flaws -- his hands aren’t the greatest and his route-running skills are unrefined, as was evident again Saturday when he and Rodgers were on different pages on a throw to the end zone in the second quarter -- he gets open.
Yet he played only 132 snaps in the regular season and just four in last weekend’s wild-card playoff win over the Washington Redskins. His only two catches this season came in Week 6.
On Saturday, with Davante Adams inactive because of the knee injury he sustained in Washington combined with the chest injury Randall Cobb sustained in the first quarter against the Cardinals, the Packers had no choice but to play Janis along with Jones and Jared Abbrederis. They were the only three receivers the Packers had left.
Sure enough, Janis produced.
Seven catches, 145 yards and two touchdowns later, Janis strengthened the argument that he should have been playing all along. His 4.42-second 40-yard dash speed and 6-foot-3 size gave the Packers something they could never replicate after Jordy Nelson blew out his knee in the preseason.
But the Packers mostly ignored Janis all season. Before Saturday, Rodgers was just 2-of-11 with an interception while targeting Janis in his two-year career.
“He’s taken advantage of some opportunities, and he’s just a young man who needs to play,” McCarthy said Saturday after the game. “He’s got a lot of raw ability. He made some huge, huge plays tonight.”
Not only did Janis remarkably have two catches for 101 yards on the final drive of regulation, including an improbable 41-yard touchdown as time expired, he also caught an 8-yard touchdown in the third quarter that put the Packers ahead 13-7.
“We felt pretty confident that anybody in our room could step up,” Janis said. “It’s unfortunate when someone gets hurt. When your time comes, you’ve just got to step in and act like you’ve been there.”
Here’s a breakdown of the offensive performance in Saturday’s season-ending loss:
Total offensive plays: 73
Receivers
Notes: Cobb spent the night in an Arizona hospital after he sustained a chest injury in the first quarter. With Patrick Peterson covering him, Jones was shut out on only two targets (including one Rodgers bounced to him on fourth down on the second-to-last series of regulation). It was the third time in 18 games this season Jones was held without a catch, and he had three other games this season with only one catch.
Quarterbacks
Notes: Rodgers’ 41-yard touchdown to Janis was his second successful Hail Mary attempt of the season. He was 2-of-3 on Hail Mary tries this season. The rest of the NFL was 3-of-10, according to ESPN Stats & Information. It was his second completion on a pass thrown 40 or more yards downfield on that drive. He had only three such completions all season before Saturday.
Running backs
Notes: Lacy had 75 of his 89 yards on consecutive carries in the third quarter to set up Janis’ first touchdown. Lacy averaged just 1.4 yards on his other 10 carries. Starks had just 23 yards on seven carries.
Tight ends
Notes: Rodgers was targeted eight times and had five catches for 45 yards.
