Gilbert Brown was one of the great Packers of the '90s era. Brown is still beloved by Packers fans today after playing nearly a decade in Green Bay. Brown played in 125 games for the Green and Gold and had some amazing moments along the way.

Here are just a few of the top moments of his football life.

3. The Vikings Draft Gilbert Brown

Although Brown is a career Packer, they did not draft him. The Green Bay Packers division rival, the Minnesota Vikings, actually drafted "The Gravedigger." Brown was a third-round pick from Kansas in 1993. However, Minnesota waived him during roster cutdowns. The Vikings' loss became the Packers' gain for a decade.

Although Brown never played a game for the Vikings, getting drafted is a big moment for any player. Brown got his chance to play the Vikings plenty of times throughout his career and was a big part of the Packers' defensive successes in the '90s.

2. The Gravedigger is Inducted into the Packers Hall of Fame

The Green Bay Packers are one of the most storied franchises in the NFL. Countless legends wore the Green and Gold and played inside historic Lambeau Field. However, only 166 players can say they have been inducted into the Green Bay Packers Hall of Fame.

Gilbert Brown is one of those players. He was part of what former Packers general manager Ron Wolf called "the greatest defensive line he's ever been around" and a key contributor to the success of a Super Bowl defense.

"That was a great defensive line," Wolf said to Packers.com's Cliff Christl. "In my 41 years of football, I've never been associated with a better one than that. A lot of people would say, 'Reggie this or Reggie that,' but everything worked around what Gilbert did."

Gilbert Brown was a force in the middle of the Packers' defensive line his whole career. While players around him excelled at getting to the quarterback, Brown did the dirty work and was a huge factor in shutting down an opponent's run game. Moving the way Brown did, at his size, was truly remarkable and made him one of the NFL's elite players.

3. Gilbert Brown Helps Packers Win Super Bowl XXXI

Every player dreams of winning a championship. Players battle for an entire season to just have a chance at it. If they ultimately do win it, it's a culmination of hard work, effort and sacrifices. The 1996 season ended with the Green Bay Packers bringing the Lombardi Trophy back home.

When asked about his Super Bowl win in 2022, Brown shared his thought on where it ranks in his career achievements.

"It’s at the very top," Brown told Mayfield Sports Markteing in December, 2022. "Professionally, football wise, there is nothing that can top that. There’s a lot of great players who don’t have a ring. I got one; I cherish that. I don’t even wear my ring, I just like to look at it, that’s it."

- Gilbert Brown

The Packers' defense in 1996 was among the league's best. They were fourth against the run and first against the pass. Without Gilbert Brown, the Packers' defense could not have had the same impact. His contributions made him and the 1996 Packers Super Bowl champions!

A question as old as time:  Why does workplace productivity decrease in the summer?

Summer at work can be a fun time but also a dead period in which you are trying to find the motivation to complete tasks.

According to Brad Anderson for Calendar.com, who wrote this nugget about workplace productivity. "Studies show that workplace productivity plummets by 20 percent between June and August. "Additionally, attendance at work decreases by 19 percent, and workers are 45 percent more distracted."

Taking time for yourself, such as on a mental health day or a vacation, is an important reminder that taking care of yourself is OK.

However, in general, it's hard for people to focus on work when it's sunny and 80 degrees outside. That goes along with people who use social media at work, and they look at what they are missing out on.

With many hot days in the summer calendar, it's hard for people to concentrate due to the humidity making people less focused and more tired.

Some places use summer hours, which places close earlier on Fridays. But working long hours from Monday-Thursday can cause stress, even if they have fewer hours to work on Friday.

How To Increase Workplace Productivity During the Summer?

It's inevitable workplace productivity will go down in the summer. It's hard to ask people to stay focused on work for three months. However, there's a solution:  Book a professional sports speaker.

professional sports speakers have a lot to offer a workplace, and there are several ways an athlete speaker can benefit your workplace.

Here are some of the ways booking a professional sports speaker could increase workplace productivity in the summer:

Encouraging Teamwork

This is the biggest aspect in which work and sports are the same. Working together for a common goal helps bring everyone together. Outside of working together, communication is another key aspect to making sure you are working well together as a team.

What makes a good team is the ability to be open to new ideas. The top places to work are places where people get along and have the ability to be honest team members. Professional sports speakers no better than anyone about how good teamwork creates a winning culture. Sharing their perspectives on good teamwork could be beneficial to help instill a positive workplace culture.

Overcoming Obstacles

Everyone can relate to this idea. Every person in the world has had to overcome something, and it made them better in the long run. There have been managers and CEOs who started at the bottom of the company and progressively worked their way up. The same thing is true with professional sports speakers. They can relate because they had to outwork everyone to make it to the hardest leagues in the world.

How a Professional Sports Speaker Can Be Motivating?

Hard work eventually pays off. A professional sports speaker normally provides examples of what they had to get to where they're at. The same logic applies in the workplace. If you work and go above and beyond, managers begin to notice. It's similar to an athlete who's the first one in the last one out. In a workplace, an employee who puts in long hours, and does their best on every project, will eventually get rewarded.

An athlete speaker can inspire employees to do something to go the extra mile that they hadn't previously done.

Start by increasing workplace productivity in the summer by booking a professional athlete or coach to speak to your staff today with the help of Mayfield Sports Marketing.

Mason Crosby has been with the Packers since they drafted him in the sixth round of the 2007 NFL Draft. However, with the team drafting Anders Carlson in this year's Draft, could Crosby's time in Green Bay be over?

Mason Crosby: Kicker, Leader & Clutch-Performer

Crosby was known for his consistency and ability to make clutch kicks under pressure. In 2007, he made a game-winning 42-yard field against the Philadelphia Eagles to secure a 16-13 win on opening weekend.

Mason Crosby became the first rookie to hit a game-winning field goal on opening weekend since Matt Bahr in 1979. Crosby was named NFC Special Teams Player of the Week (the first rookie to receive that honor in Week 1.)

In 2014, Crosby scored his 1,000th point in his 124th career game in a Week 14 game against the New England Patriots. That made him the third-fastest player to 1,000 points in NFL history. Crosby also made a 48-yard field goal to force overtime against the Seattle Seahawks in the NFC Championship.

No. 2 became the all-time leading scorer for the Packers in the 2015 season. The following year, Mason Crosby made a game-winning 51-yard field goal against Dallas Cowboys in the NFC's Divisional Round and passed David Akers for his 20th consecutive field goal converted in the postseason.

Despite COVID-19 impacting the 2020 NFL season, the Texas native was perfect on field goal attempts (16 for 16). In what was perhaps his last season in 2022, he connected on game-winning field goals against the New England Patriots and Dallas Cowboys.

If this is the end of Crosby's kicking career, the final tally would be 395 out of 485 career attempts (81.4 percent), and the 11th-most all-time career points with 1,918.

Mason Crosby: Off the Field

Over the last 16 years, nobody played a bigger role for the Packers than Crosby on and off the field. Crosby was one of the team captains for Green Bay in 2019 and 2020.

His work off the field is commendable. Crosby was awarded the Chris Greicius Celebrity Award last November for his work with the Make-A-Wish Foundation. He also served as the co-chairman for the Vince Lombardi golf classic for the past nine years.

It has also been stated by the likes of former Packers QB Aaron Rodgers that the Crosby family enjoyed hosting holiday events and meals for teammates.

If we've seen Mason Crosby's final kick, it's been one hell of a run for the Colorado University alum. We look forward to seeing what's next in his post-playing career.

Jonathan Taylor has established himself as one of the best running backs in the NFL. Following a stellar career with the Wisconsin Badgers, the Colts drafted Talor with the 41st overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.

He rushed for 1,169 yards as a rookie, adding 12 total touchdowns and nearly 300 receiving yards. Taylor was named First-Team All-Pro in 2021 after totaling over 2,000 combined yards and 20 touchdowns.

2022 proved to be a difficult year for the Colts as a whole, firing head coach Frank Reich in Week 10. Taylor was limited to 11 games but still averaged over 4.5 yards per carry.

However, Jonathan will look to get back to his All-Pro level of play under a new head coach and offensive coordinator.

Jonathan Taylor Leads the New-Look Colts

The Colts have injected more playmakers into the offense, so teams can not focus solely on Taylor. The team drafted Anthony Richardson, who may give them a major upgrade as a passer. They also added talented rookie receiver, Josh Downs, adding more speed to help the chains.

Regardless of Richardson's development as a passer, he will give opponents another rushing threat to account for. This will make Taylor's job easier.

The Colts are clearly focused on ensuring their offense is on par with some of the best in the league. New head coach Shane Steichen was the offensive coordinator for the Eagles in 2022. In Philidelphia, Steichen got the most out of Miles Sanders, who ran for over 1,200 yards and 11 touchdowns. He now has Jonathan Taylor at his disposal.

Taylor on Expectations for Richardson & Steichen

Steichen and Richardson will obviously go a long way in Taylor getting back to his 2022 form. However, he will go a long way in helping them as well. The former Wisconsin Badger spoke about how he looks to help his young quarterback.

"I’m letting Richardson know that I’m here and I have his back no matter what the case may be. Whether that means running RPOs, in pass protection, or if he needs somebody as an outlet in the passing game. It could just mean me being efficient in the run game for him."

- Jonathan Taylor to Sports Illustrated's Justin Melo

Taylor also spoke about what Shane Steichen brings to the Colts and his approach to coaching the offense to be explosive once again.

"It’s not about whether or not the job gets done. The job may get done, but Coach Steichen will be watching the film and identifying teachable moments (laughs). You did a great job, but we can correct this false step. Instead of going underneath this guy, go over the top next time.

He’s very critical when it comes to the details of football. I love that. I feel like he really has a passion for the game. He wants everyone else to have the same passion. Hone in on your details. Don’t just do your job, do it well. Work at your craft."

-Jonathan Taylor to Sports Illustrated's Justin Melo

Desmond Howard accomplished so much in his collegiate and professional career that the more you dig into it, the more impressive it becomes. Howard was born on May 15, 1970, in Cleveland, Ohio. Howard earned All-American and All-Ohio honors as a tailback during his senior season at St. Joseph High School in Cleveland. He scored 18 touchdowns and a record-breaking 5,392 rushing yards, as well as 10 interceptions on defense. He earned three varsity letters in track, football and basketball.

After his high school career, he chose to attend the University of Michigan, where his talents were put on display for the entire nation.  e originally committed to playing running back at Michigan. However, three days into his first camp, he was moved to wide receiver. The rest, as they say, was history. After rarely being used his freshman year, he broke out as a sophomore. That year he recorded 63 catches for 1,025 yards and 11 touchdowns. Additionally, he showed his versatility by running for 58 yards and averaging 29.6 yards on kickoffs, with a touchdown return.

Desmond Howard Put The Nation On Notice During His Junior Year

Desmond Howard's junior season is when he showed that he was truly something special. His acrobatic catches and explosive returns made him one of the most electrifying players ever to play the college game. He became the first receiver in Big Ten history to lead the conference in scoring (138 points). He set or tied five NCAA records and had 12 single-season Michigan records. Howard caught 61 passes for 960 yards and an astounding 19 touchdowns.

He also rushed 12 times for 165 yards and two TDs. In his return game, he averaged 15.3 yards (with a TD) on punt returns and 31 yards on kick returns (with a TD). The All-American won the Heisman by the second-largest margin of victory in the trophy’s history. He was also awarded the Walter Camp Trophy and the Maxwell Award that year before graduating from the University of Michigan with a Bachelor's degree in Mass Communications. After his junior year, he declared for the 1992 NFL draft. The Washington Redskins selected him fourth overall.

Desmond Howard's NFL Career

Desmond Howard bounced around five different teams during his 11-year NFL career. Howard spent time with the Washington Redskins (1992-1994), Jacksonville Jaguars (1995), Green Bay Packers (1996 and 1999), Oakland Raiders (1997-1998) and Detroit Lions (1999-2002). The highlight of his career certainly came during the 1996 season with the Green Bay Packers. That season he led the NFL in punt returns (58), punt return yards (875) punt return average (15.1), and punt return touchdowns (three). He also recorded 460 kickoff return yards. His 875 punt return yards set an NFL record that year.

He continued his success during the 1996 post-season. Howard had a punt return for a touchdown in a game between the Packers and the San Francisco 49ers. He also had a 46-yard punt return that set up another score. The Packers would go on to win that game and face the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XXXI. Late in the third quarter, Drew Bledsoe led the Patriots down the field to score a touchdown and trim the Patriots' deficit to six. The very next play, Desmond Howard would make history.

The Patriots boomed the ensuing kickoff to the one-yard line, but Howard effectively shattered the Patriots' hopes for a comeback with a 99-yard kickoff return for a Packers touchdown. His return and the Packers' subsequent two-point conversion closed out the game's scoring, and the Packers eventually won 35–21. Desmond Howard took home Super Bowl MVP honors. Desmond Howard also earned Pro Bowl honors with the Detroit Lions in 2000.

What Is Desmond Howard Doing Now?

Desmond Howard joined ESPN in 2005 as a college football analyst. He has been an analyst on the Emmy-Award winning "College GameDay Built by The Home Depot" since 2005 and also calls midweek games on ESPN. He also contributes to a number of ESPN shows and platforms, including "Get Up," "SportsCenter," and "College Football Live." In 2011, Howard was selected for the College Football Hall of Fame. He has also been inducted into the Gator Bowl Hall of Fame, the University of Michigan Hall Of Honor, the State of Michigan Sports Hall of Fame, and the Cleveland Sports Hall of Fame. Professional athletes and coaches make some of the best motivators for company employees.  Running a great company requires having great employees. Knowing how to motivate employees to do the job, and do it correctly, is a direct responsibility of the managers and owners of that company.

Here is why bringing in professional athletes and coaches to talk to your employees could make a drastic difference in what you see in return from your employees.

Perseverance

Coaches and athletes are ingrained with determination to achieve their goals. Taking those traits from the field to the boardroom makes any goal attainable your company may have as a result. In the workplace, the best employees subsequently never give up and always find a way to overcome obstacles. Failing will be a part of any corporation or business. Dealing with loss is something coaches, and athletes overcome every single season. When they struggle with performance, athletes will dedicate extra time to practice until they improve. Learning this trait can be how to motivate employees to prevent the same mistake from ever happening twice.

Knowing How To Motivate Employees to Put the Team First

Any corporation or business needs employees to have a "team first" mentality. A team-first mentality is about looking at your employees and viewing them as living, breathing organisms. An organism can live in a healthy manner if each of its organs is functioning and contributing to its overall health.

Coaches and athletes certainly understand that team goals always trump individual needs. Being part of a team means a serious commitment to the group. Personal sacrifices come with the territory. For athletes, that may mean giving up weekends for practice or maintaining a strict training diet. Applying that same mentality to the workplace establishes a commitment to achieving goals. Rewarding employees who carry these traits with more pay or time off (when able) will go a long way in answering the question, "how to motivate employees."

Handling Criticism

Becoming coachable consequently lets you take an objective look at your strengths and weaknesses in all areas of your life. Athletes and coaches have taken constructive criticism (and sometimes not so constructive) throughout their careers. Explaining to your employees that this type of criticism is in an attempt to better themselves, not degrade them, is vital to long-term success. Managers who know they can provide direct and honest feedback to their employees without worrying about hurting feelings, or losing productivity for the day, allow for quick solutions to problems that may arise as a result.

Start taking the first step in answering "how to motivate employees" by booking a professional athlete or coach to speak to your staff today with the help of Mayfield Sports Marketing.

The Kansas City Chiefs defeated the Philadelphia Eagles 38-35 to win Super Bowl LVII. It was an incredibly exciting game, a back-and-forth affair that reminded fans why the NFL reigns supreme among American sports. The win also means that former Green Bay Packers wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling (MVS) and former Wisconsin Badgers linebacker Leo Chenal are now Chiefs Super Bowl Champions.

Marquez Valdes-Scantling Helps Guide Chiefs to Super Bowl

While MVS did not record a catch on one target in Super Bowl LVII, he played a major role in the Chiefs’ offense all season. He recorded a career-high 42 receptions, and his 687 receiving yards were the second-most of his career (690 in 2020).

MVS was crucial in getting the Chiefs to the Super Bowl with his performance against Cincinnati in the AFC Championship. MVS had six receptions for 116 yards and a touchdown in that contest.

Leo Chenal: Badgers Standout to Chiefs Super Bowl Impact Player

The Kansas City Chiefs drafted Leo Chenal in the third round of the 2022 NFL Draft. He spent most of the season in a reserve role, recording 19 tackles and a sack. However, he saved the biggest performance of his rookie season for the Super Bowl.

Against the Eagles, Chenal recorded six tackles and a sack. Amazingly, Chenal did not record a tackle in any of the Chiefs’ prior playoff games this postseason. His stunning performance in Super Bowl LVII is subsequently a sign of great things to come for the young linebacker.

Packers Hall of Famer Gilbert Brown has become a known member of the Wisconsin community, constantly making appearances at charity events. This weekend was no different as he and Mayfield Sports Marketing once again traveled to Brookfield, Wisconsin to help Tricia's Troops bring relief and support to families affected by cancer.

Tricia's Troops Origins

Cancer is such an awful disease. Not only does it drain a person’s body of their health, youth, and vigor, but it strains those suffering from it and their families in other ways. Chances are that you, yourself, have had or have had a loved one experience cancer. Undoubtedly, their physical sufferings, along with the emotional, mental, and spiritual tolls of the disease and its treatment, are all-too-familiar.

Such was the case for Tricia Wright. A native of Oconomowoc, Wisconsin, Tricia was diagnosed with stage four liver cancer on January 16, 2010. Additionally, her diagnosis included metastasis to her liver and lungs. At the time, Tricia was 35, married, and the mother of two little girls. While her prognosis was not good, Tricia and her family opted to fight the disease with chemotherapy.

As many know, chemotherapy is not an easy treatment. Members of her church, Dr. Martin Luther Church, provided her and her family with cards and meals. Eventually, they became known as Tricia’s Troops. Per the Tricia’s Troops website, "Tricia and her family realized that the support they received from their friends and community was not something that all cancer patients and families received."

For this reason, Tricia and her husband started a non-profit organization called Tricia’s Troops Cancer Connection. Their goal was to provide the love and support they received after her diagnosis to every family affected by cancer.

Tricia Wright died on April 26, 2012, 15 months after her diagnosis. Her legacy of kindness and care for others certainly lives on in the foundation that she started.

Mayfield Sports Marketing & Gilbert Brown Join the Cause

Gilbert surprises Kara Mayfield on her first anniversary of beating breast cancer with a gift.

Mayfield Sports Marketing and Packers legend Gilbert Brown were proud to once again partner with Tricia’s Troops. Together, they helped raise money to bring relief and support to families affected by cancer.

On Saturday, Sept. 17, Gilbert and Mark Mayfield joined Tricia's Troops in Brookfield, Wisconsin for a charity event that has raised over $100,000 at an event in previous years.

“We are absolutely honored and humbled to work with Candi, Bill, and the entire Wright family on the Tricia’s Troops events," Mark said. "Packers legend Gilbert Brown, and I have attended the event since 2015. The work that they do is very inspiring, and we are proud to assist in their mission.”

This is a continuation of Mark's non-profit work. In the past, he has worked with players such as, Ahman Green, Hall of Famer Leroy Butler, Hall of Famer Jerry Kramer, Hall of Famer Dave Robinson, Kenny Clark and Olympians Bonnie Blair and Chellsie Memmel.
